Simple Yet Effective

The authors of "Converastion Gambits" have taken a very "lexical phrase" approach to conversation skills. Each unit is very simple, and gives a range of expressions for students to learn and memorise as lexical phrases. The theory is that native speakers have huge stockpiles of such "chunks" that we draw on.

The skills covered include responding with sympathy, interrupting, expressing opinions, disagreeing, back channelling, and a huge range more. Each unit has a simple practice exercise, though this will need to be supplemented with other exercises for more extensive usage.

I have found that students enjoy it and love the input. They also love using the new phrases. It is a great resource that works for a whole range of levels.

This book is a treasure trove of expressions students need to learn to be able to converse fluently. The activities can easily be adapted by the teacher to suit his/her students' interest. Students also enjoy learning the phrases and practising them. So far, every lesson I have taught based on this book has been successful in terms of students' improved conversation ability. The next day or the next lesson you can hear them using the new language unprompted. A must for any ELT/ESL teacher's bookshelf.

In metaphysical contrast, the world is a spatial matrix populated most conspicuously by finite physical objects whose careers proceed sequentially from past to present to future. Mann defends a view according to which the world was created out of nothing and is sustained in existence from moment to moment by God. The differences in metaphysical status between creator and creatures raise questions for which Mann suggests answers. How can God know contingent facts and necessary truths without depending on them? Why is it so easy to overlook God's presence? Why would self-sufficient God create anything? Wouldn't a perfect God create the best world possible? Can God be free? Can we be free if God's power is continuously necessary to sustain us in existence? If God does sustain us, is God an accomplice whenever we sin?

Mann responds to the Euthyphro dilemma by arguing for a kind of divine command metaethical theory, whose normative content lays emphasis on love. Given the metaphysical differences between us, how can there be loving relationships between God and creatures? Mann responds by examining the notions of piety and hope.

About the Author

William E. Mann received his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Minnesota. This book cover 100% of the capabilities of Fancybox

I use Fancybox for years now, and I also wrote a plugin for it, I though I was quite aware about how to use Fancybox, but I was wrong :)
Thanks to this book, I discovered some tips and use I didn't though possible.
Easy to read, with a lot of examples, I think this book will be the reference about Fancybox.
I urge beginners and more to read it, It is really good and even if you think you know Fancybox or the online doc is enough, this read will help you to be optimal and effective.

Great read for the fans

This book is really great. Since the book is written mostly by him, you will learn A LOT about him, even the most hardcore fans will find somethings new here. He's very open, honest & pretty funny. Also, there's like 20 pages of his lyric sheets with comments on them by him, this was cool for me cause I like seeing how music artist write their stuff (although his handwritting is hard to read). Also there's personal pics (a bunch), drawings (like 4) but mostly this book is like sitting across him and interviewing him.

Impressed, but missing critical details

I am one of Eminem's "older" fans that he references in his book -- but it wasn't "8 Mile" that did it, it was his performance of "Stan" with Elton Jon. He has always intrigued me -- never smiles, seems kind of awkward in interviews, but yet is an artistic genius who is obviously the "real deal" and hence his long staying power. I thought the book was wonderfully written -- a conversational style that sounded just like him, yet wasn't so full of rap jargon that I didn't get it. I loved hearing about his relationship with Proof, who I hadn't known much about. It was interesting, and a little sad, to hear how fame has affected his ability to go out in public without a "posse". The book humanizes him and shows that he's matured; he even apologizes for that dumb Triumph the Insult Dog incident. And the photos of the scrawled lyrics, some on hotel paper, were fascinating. However, I felt key details were missing: He glosses over how he first got involved with Dr. Dre; there's barely anything about his relationship with Kim, how he met her, why they remarried then almost immediately split up again; there's nothing about his addiction to painkillers or going through rehab. The book just comes to an end rather abruptly. If he would have gone into more detail about these aspects of his life, the book would've been perfect, to me.

Explains a lot, well worth the wait

Even though I'm a huge Eminem fan, I learned a lot from this book. He covers a lot of subjects that he hasn't before and explains a lot of recent events too. I think the book is very well-written, easy to follow, and very interesting. I've been waiting for Eminem to write a biography for a very long time and I think the wait was well worth it. I'm not too big on reading but I finished this book in three days. If you're an Eminem fan, buy this now. You won't regret it because you'll learn a lot from it.
